This cartoon I drew after watching Funny Face again. The idea that Audrey Hepburn could ever be frumpy makes me laugh. And Kay Thompson is SUCH a ham!

funny face
There is an honesty in drawing yourself. It is unexpectedly hard, sometimes - looking in the mirror, looking back and forth at your paper, seeing all those features, hearing the things you say to yourself about those features - and unexpectedly rewarding. Learning about yourself. Learning how to see others through learning how to see yourself ("oh, the eyes go here, and they occupy this space with the nose, and the mouth...I see...").

Toll, dass du dich an ein Selbst-Portrait gewagt hast! Ob es gut ist, kann ich so gar nicht beurteilen, weil ich dich ja noch nie gesehen habe...
ReplyDeleteIch tue mich mit Selbstportraits schwer, schon weil ich nicht so gerne in den Spiegel schaue :)
Aber es gab mal eines, das mir sehr gut gelungen war. Das war noch zu Schulzeiten, ach tat ich mich schwer mit diesem Thema, aber dann schminkten wir und gegenseitig, färbten die Gesichter ein - und dieses durch Farben verfremdete Gesicht von mir konnte ich gut malen...
Die sind wirklich schwer. Diese Idee mit dem Schminken finde ich toll, muß ich ausprobieren! (hast du Kunst studiert?)
