This cartoon I drew after watching Funny Face again. The idea that Audrey Hepburn could ever be frumpy makes me laugh. And Kay Thompson is SUCH a ham!

funny face
There is an honesty in drawing yourself. It is unexpectedly hard, sometimes - looking in the mirror, looking back and forth at your paper, seeing all those features, hearing the things you say to yourself about those features - and unexpectedly rewarding. Learning about yourself. Learning how to see others through learning how to see yourself ("oh, the eyes go here, and they occupy this space with the nose, and the mouth...I see...").

honesty
I went for a walk tonight. I went mostly just to walk, but ended up at the grocery store. There I bought some cookies, and a bottle of nail polish. The man at the check-out was tall, in a yellow shirt. "Important things here," he said.
"Yes," I said, "Just the essentials."
"You're going to be popular with those...Newman's O's."
In my head I added, "and with my pink nail polish."
On my way back a man with one tooth, sitting at a bus stop, greeted me. "Hi," I said. "You look like you from a different part of the country," he said. "God bless you!"
Now a man on the radio is singing, "All I want...is honesty..."
In my experience, if you want something, you have to give it.

friends
Yesterday I was playing with recording, trying out different rooms, etc. And layering tracks, so I could sing and play guitar and viola all at once! It was very exciting.
Afterwards I noticed that both instruments were lying on my bed, next to each other. I so seldom see them side by side like this, I had to draw them, however quickly.
And here is a perhaps-pertinent cartoon.
